Branaville defeats European Champion Levi Lawrence in 4 round International.

Sun, 13 Mar 2011 18:28:00

Eddie Barnaville stepped into the ring in Galway's Black Box theatre last night to face Welsh, British and European Champion Levi Lawrence in a 4 round F/C international on the undercard of two World Titles.

Round one saw the two fighters sizing each other up for the first minute before both began setting a ferocious pace which lasted the rest of the fight. Branaville came forward with strong combinations to early on, but Lawrence' timing was excellent as he countered well on several occasion landing a number of solid shots. Nevertheless, both seasoned fighters stayed composed, and demonstrated a very high level of skill throughout. But coming into the later rounds Branville started to control the ring, finding his range and timing, cutting off the ring and forcing his opponent to the ropes. From here Eddie worked extremely we'll from the inside using his sweeps, body shots and uppercuts to great effect while moving well to avoid the counter. A large crowd had travelled up to Galway in support and as such they were not disappointed with the result as the Thurles fighter received a unanimous decision win of a very game opponent.

Negotiations are already in place for a rematch in Cardiff later in the year, where no doubt both fighters will once again put on a great display of kickboxing for the fight fans. But for now its a few days rest for Eddie before he gets back to the gym in preparation for another international in Thurles on April 16th 2011, where he will take on French kickboxing and thai boxing champion Adam Elafani in a 4 round contest.

Dylan McKay Fights at 3 days notice on Derry World Title Undercard

Sun, 13 Mar 2011 17:53:00

Dylan McKay once again stepped up at short notice, taking on Derry kickboxer Ronnie Brennan with three days notice after Brennan's opponent had to pull out. He put in a brilliant performance, but unfortunately the judges decision went to the home fighter on this occasion, a surprising decison according to a number of those in attendance!! Nevertheless, it was a very tough and close fight and possibly a good one for a rematch in Thurles on 16th of April. But once again well done to Dylan for stepping up and doing the club proud, and also thanks to Paul Pike for looking after Dylans corner on the night.

2 Barnavilles get ready to take on the opposition on 12 March

Wed, 09 Feb 2011 14:54:00

After two successful weekends competing in Waterford and the Full-Contact Nationals in Crumlin, both Eddie and Martin Barnaville begin preparations for their next fight on 12 March in the Black Box arena in Galway.

Eddie Barnaville takes on well respected and seasoned fighter (Welsh, British & European Champion) Levi Lawrence in a 4 Round International. While Martin Barnaville takes on Galway fighter Martin Murray in a 3 Round Low-Kick fight.

This promotion will no doubt be one of the biggest of 2011 with a vast number of titles on the line, including World, European, 5 Nations, and Irish titles up for grabs. Best of luck to our two lads and to all the Irish fighters seeking international success.

Five Thurles Kickboxing Club fighters (Ray Fanning, Jolleen Reilly, Eddie Barnaville, Connor Broderick & Martin Barnaville) made their way to Dublin last Saturday and Sunday to test their skills against some of the best fighters in the country at the AKAI Full-Contact Kickboxing Nationals in Crumlin boxing club. Over the course of the weekend the team managed to take on their opponent in each of their weight categories and altogether they came home with 2 Golds and 2 Silvers from this years national championships. Well done to all the team and lets hope we can continue this success for the rest of 2011.

Top Results from Waterford Fight

Tue, 01 Feb 2011 12:15:00

After a long wait (weight-in and register 11am - fight 6-7pm) 5 Thurles fighters stepped into the ring at an IKF open competition on Sunday last against fighters from all over Ireland and did the club proud with their performances. Two of our youngest competitors had very close fights, showing great skill, but unfortunately they did not get the judges decisions on this occasion. Thomas Croke stepped in the ring for the first time and Gavin Hayden although fighting for the fourth time was struggling with a bad chest infection, but both fighters showed great heart and determination which will help them have much success in the sport in the future.

After waiting patiently for the best part of 7 hours the older fighters got their opportunity to shine, and shine they did, with four wins and a draw from five fights. Displaying a very high level of skill Thurles fighters Eddie Barnaville (2 fights), Conor Broderick and Martin Barnaville (2 fights) climbed through the ropes and did the club proud once again. The experience gained will also be of great benefit to these three fighters in their preparation for the National Championships (AKAI) in Crumlin next weekend.

McKay wins by 3rd Round TKO.

Mon, 04 Oct 2010 13:57:00

Results from Galway black dragon promotion. Unfortunately due to illness the planned fight between Paul Pike (Thurles) and Sean Cumiskey (Galway) had to be postponed till later in the year or early 2011. However, Thurles fighter Dylan McKay was still on the bill and had a cracking fight against Dylan Casey (Black Dragon Gort). The fight started at a ferocious pace with plenty of exchanges and both fighter delivering accurate punch and kick combinations.

Nevertheless, as the fight progressed McKay came into his stride and began to find his range, forcing his opponent back onto the ropes and working well in close range. However, Casey never gave up and continued to deliver counter attacks to try and keep his opponent at bay. The second round continued with more of the same, with both fighters showing great determination and skill.

McKay had a strong round and managed to do a little more to push the pace of the fight and find a home for some strong punches and kicks. In the third round the Thurles fighter controlled the ring more efficiently and cut off his opponent, landing some great combinations and putting on the pressure. Midway through the round McKay stopped his opponent with a strong right hand and left roundhouse, winning the fight by TKO.

Jolleen Reilly to fight for - 51kg Irish Title.

Mon, 04 Oct 2010 13:57:00

Jolleen Reilly (Thurles) is due to take on Megan Maher (Waterford) at Pat Rockets Kickboxing promotion in Waterford on the 24th of October. Anyone who has seen these two fighters in action before will be under no illusions; this fight will be a hard fought battle and will truly determine who is the top -51kg fighter in the country. Also on the under-card are Thurles fighters Dylan McKay and Connor Broderick.

McKay fights at short notice.

Mon, 04 Oct 2010 13:56:00

Dylan McKay took a fight in Kilkenny (Sunday 26th) on the Dragons Lair promotion. With a late drop out, the Kilkenny coaches were eager to find a replacement ASAP and contacted Thurles Kickboxing club on Friday night. With only one days notice (due to circumstances) Dylan McKay jumped at the chance to fight again, only a week after winning by TKO in Galway.

In a packed house McKay stepped in against his heavier opponent on the under-card of a very exciting Dragons Lair promotion, which included the return of experienced and well know kick-boxers Vinny DiRuscio and John Paul Soammes, as well as the Middleweight Irish Title clash between Sean ONeill (Waterford - BOS) and Clayton Delaney (Killkenny - D.L.). Both fighters started the fight very strong and came at each other with everything they had.

With equal exchanges between both fighters, it looked like the beginning of another exciting fight. Both fighters moved well and showed great offensive and defensive skills, using the ring to its full effect and giving the crowd an excellent demonstration of kickboxing skill. Unfortunately, as the fight progressed Dylan got caught with a solid round house as his slipped under a strong right hook.

With a true fighters heart McKay tried to fight on but was caught with a very accurate right cross and the contest was stopped by the referee (ensuring the safety of fighters is always paramount in any contest). Ever the sportsman Dylan congratulated his opponent and vowed to be back in action in the coming weeks, when he takes on Bobby Shanahan in Waterford on the under-card of Jolleen Reilly's (Thurles) Title fight against Megan Maher (Waterford - Pat Rockett).

Galway Tournment.

Wed, 22 Sep 2010 15:56:00

Thurles fighters Dylan McKay and Paul Pike will fight on the undercard for this blackdragon kickboxing and K1 promotion in Gort Co. Galway. Paul will be taking on Sean Cumiskey (IKF Irish and 5 nations champion - 60kg).

This will be a step up for Paul, but we are sure he is more than up for the challenge. The main events of the night will feature two very exciting clashes between Galway fighter Eric Daly (5 nations and Irish champion - 64kg) vs Chris Coyle from Donegal, and a K1 bout between Cathal Manning and Andy Myers. An exciting line up for sure.
